Why is it that Shopping Centres leave me cold?, So why does the Sunday Teguise Market give me a buzz? It’s the feeling of stepping back in time but retaining the hustle and bustle of Lanzarotes ancient Capital town. The atmosphere is electric, with hundreds of stalls selling anything from Canarian handbuilt furniture to fake Rolex or Guicci watches, The streets, the alleyways, the squares, the houses and other buildings invite you to inspect, peruse, whatever is on offer, and yes if you fancy something, try to beat the stallholder down a euro or two. They love it. High upon a hilltop this ancient 17th Century ex Capital is lovingly over- looked by the Castillo de Santa Barbara. Well worth a visit as it gives lots of history of the Island. I like to relax for a few minutes in the Central square to listen and watch either Canarian folk dancers and singers or the South American pan pipe musicians, all of who delight both Locals and Tourists in the square. Further on in another square you can hear a jazz quartet belting out their kind of music. If by this time you are feeling peckish, then you have a wide choice of mostly fast foods from a variety of stalls. My couple of hours in the Teguise market makes me think that if all shopping was like this then I may say yes when my wife asks me to go with her to the shops!! Arts, Crafts, Hats or Tat, Watches or Swatches, Shoes or Booze, ceramics or CD’s, Its all there in the Sunday Market at Teguise so pay it a visit as soon as you can………. Post a review
